Question and Answers concerning Covid 19

Below you will find the answers to the most frequently asked questions about our hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic.

How we take care of your safety

We are hosts from the heart. The last weeks were therefore especially hard for us, because the most important thing was missing: You! Our guest. Unfortunately we will close our doors from 02.11.2020. Should you nevertheless plan to come to us after the reopening, we will provide you with the most important information.

  • Since 1st of June we are open. Even travels with touristic purposes are possible again.

  • Yes, for a stay in our house we require a negative Corona test until further notice.

    A complete Corona vaccination (usually 14 days after the second vaccination) or a recovery from Corona (at least 28 days and a maximum of 6 months) exempts from the testing obligation if the proof is presented upon arrival. We would like to point out that the mask requirement in force in the house still applies.

    Possibilities of the test:
    1. A confirmation of a negative rapid antigen test from a testing center. The test can be performed up to 48 hours in advance. Hamburg has several test centers in our immediate area (including a drive-in center at "Fischmarkt") that you can visit on your arrival day. Here you can find an overview of the test centers in Hamburg. Of course, the test center can also be located outside Hamburg, e.g. in your hometown. Note: In most German test centers an appointment is necessary.
    Please note that we can only accept a rapid antigen test that has been issued in your name by an official test center or confirmed by a trained member of our staff.

    2. Confirmation of a negative PCR test. The swab for the test must have been taken no earlier than 48 hours before arrival.
    If it is not possible for you to take a test in a test center before arrival, we will in exceptional cases provide you with a free rapid antigen test in our hotel's own test center before check-in, which you can carry out yourself. Please note that the result will only be visible after 15-20 minutes and this represents a waiting time for your check-in. In addition, the rapid test performed in the hotel does not entitle you to use restaurants & bars outside the hotel (in Hamburg, a negative test is currently required for indoor areas, outdoor restaurants are exempt from the testing requirement). We therefore recommend that you arrive already with a valid negative test.

    For longer stays, we require a new negative test result every three days. We will be happy to provide this to you free of charge as well.

  • Our staff always wear gloves when cleaning your room and preparing food.

  • We provide you with disinfectants at the entrances and exits in our lobby.
    Our employees have committed themselves to wash and disinfect their hands regularly and thoroughly.

  • Our reception has a new glass structure, through which we can see you but also protect you. Furthermore we are happy about a cashless payment. There are sufficient numbers of card payment devices available for payment by EC or credit card. Before we hand you a ballpoint pen or your key card, they are thoroughly disinfected. For a smooth check-in or check-out process, there are separate entrances and exits and distance markings on the floor.

  • We want you to feel and be safe in your room. These are measures we have taken to protect your health:

    - Special training of our colleagues in our housekeeping department
    - Wearing gloves and respiratory mask during cleaning
    - Daily disinfection of surfaces and frequently touched objects (e.g. door and window handles, taps, remote control, etc.)
    - Use of a surface disinfectant that is suitable for viruses
    - Reduce all objects in the room to the most necessary (bedtime treat, flyer on the bed, etc.)
    - Daily exchange of all towels
    - Your bed linen is cleaned with antiviral detergent

  • A perfect start to the day includes a delicious breakfast. Since 3rd of June, we provide you with our popular breakfast buffet for 23,00 EUR per person/day. Breakfast is served from 7 - 10.30 am daily.

  • Yes, the Tower Bar opens daily 6 - 11 pm.
    The restaurant Port opens daily 12 - 10 pm (kitchen 12 - 3 pm & 5 - 9 pm).
    The Hafen Diner and Willis Brasserie & Lounge remain closed until further notice.

  • We love it when our hotel pulsates, when you meet strangers and friends in the corridors and stop for a little snack or a warm "Moin". However, to make sure that the corridors of our historic building are not too crowded, we rely mainly on the following measures:

    - We have introduced directional traffic in almost all parts of the building. Means one door is available as entrance and another as exit. Our restaurants have separate entrances.
    - We recommend our stairs. Have you already discovered our historic golden staircase? It is worth a visit, even if you did not want to get to another floor. Of course our lifts are still available for your arrival and departure. However, we would like to ask you to use the lifts only individually or with people with whom you share a room anyway.

Your existing booking

You are wondering if you can keep your already made booking or have bought tickets for a musical? We would be happy to inform you about current travel regulations for Hamburg. You will also find answers to possible questions about your voucher, which you received as a replacement for a reservation from March to May.

  • All musical shows have been cancelled until 28.02.2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. You can request a voucher for your already paid musical tickets via Eventim. For this, you need the original tickets, which we will gladly send you by registered mail.   • Our employees always wear gloves when preparing your food and drinks. In addition, our kitchen and service personnel are trained in correct hand washing and hand hygiene (even before Corona). Our suppliers have also taken the same measures.

  • We provide disinfectants in our hotel lobby and at the entrance of our restaurant. Please disinfect your hands before entering.

    Our employees have also committed themselves to washing and disinfecting their hands regularly and thoroughly.

    After each use of menus, chairs and tables we disinfect the surfaces with a surface disinfectant suitable for viruses.

  • Meetings and events can be held under certain restrictions. Please contact our events team directly.

  • Private events can currently be held with a maximum of 50 guests and 10 guests per table (according to contact restrictions). In addition, masks are compulsory in the entire interior. The masks may be removed during the stay at the place.

  • Due to the prescribed minimum distance between conference participants, the maximum capacity of our premises is currently very limited.
    Your personal contact (at events@hotel-hamburg.de or +49 (0) 40 31119 70 700) will be happy to show you alternative possibilities for your event so that the hygiene regulations can be observed. Among other things, it may be necessary to reduce the number of participants or rebook to another room.

    We take your and our guests' health and safety very seriously. For this purpose, we rely on our hygiene concept for conferences:

    - If there are several conferences, we pay attention to splitting over several floors or to the coordination of the break times, so that conference guests do not mix.
    - All house guests are required to wear face masks in public areas.
    - The appropriate routes for entering and leaving the room are marked to avoid oncoming traffic in the entrance area as far as possible.
    - Sponsor and exhibitor stands in the break area are only possible under certain circumstances. This mainly depends on the number of participants and stands.
    - Coffee break snacks and lunch will be available at the buffet. Participants are encouraged to consume food and hot drinks at their seats in the conference room, as the minimum distance in the break area may not be maintained.
    - Starters and desserts are provided in closed containers for self-service.
    - Hotel staff wears face masks and if necessary gloves at all times.
    - Disinfectant is available at the entrance to the hotel and in the break area in front of the conference room
    - In the entire house, special attention is paid to the disinfection of door handles, handrails, elevator buttons, etc.

  • As long as you are on your seat in the conference room, you are not required to wear a mask.

    Outside the event room we would like to ask you to always wear a protective mask while you are moving around inside the hotel.

  • Yes, a disinfectant dispenser is available in each function room.

  • We assure the check-in at 3 pm and kindly ask you to check out before 11 am. If you would like to request an early check-in or late check-out please do not hesitate to contact us prior your arrival.

  • Yes, there are a limited number of parking spaces in the courtyard of the hotel and in an adjacent public underground car park. The charge is 18 € for 24 hours. Unfortunately it is not possible to reserve a parking spot in advance. The height and width of the driveway are 1.8 meters.

  • If you book directly on the hotel website, the category Commander with Harbor View guarantees you a great view over the port of Hamburg.
    In the rooms of the categories commander, lieutenant and captain, the harbor view can be deposited as non-binding request.

  • In the traditional house, which is very classic and listed, are the reception and the rooms of the categories sailor, lieutenant, commander, commander with harbour view, nautic, tiny class and our family rooms. This part of the building was built in 1862 and is also called old sailor's house.

    The second, so-called residence building, was built in 1995. In this modern part of the building you will find the rooms of the category Captain and cabin as well as our Hafen diner.

  • Yes, you are welcome to spend your stay in our hotel with your dog. Regardless of the size of the dog we charge 20 € per dog per day.

  • No, since March 2017 we are a non-smoking hotel.

  • Usually, you can cancel our best flexibal rate until 12 pm on the day of arrival free of charge. For booking, please note that other rates or special dates e.g fairs, harbour birthday, holidays or New Years Eve the cancelation policy may vary.

  • Yes, all of our room prices include VAT and the local culture- and tourism-tax. In case you are traveling for business purposes, please be sure to fill out this document and send it to us or bring it with on your arrival, to excempt yourself from taxes.

  • In case you do not possess a creditcard, you have the possibility to book via telephone without providing credit card details (not applicable for every category, rate and date, only possible if you have a german address). In preference, you can book your room online and use the payment method PayPal or direct payment.

  • Yes, our hotel has two wheelchair friendly rooms. Furthermore, the restaurant Port and Willie's Bierstube, as well as the lobby are wheelchair accessible and free of obstacles.

    The Hotel Hafen Hamburg is a building built in the 19th century, so not all rooms and hotel corridors are wheelchair friendly. However, there are several elevators in the building that allow access to many floors.

  • That's right! We have been welcoming guests at the Port Restaurant for over 40 years. It was time for a change! After 10 months of planning and 13 weeks of remodeling, we opened the new Port on June 11, 2020.

  • No, but we can provide you with a non-binding request for a window seat.

  • Yes, we offer daily a homemade tart and cake.

  • Yes, the restaurant Port is located on the ground floor and has a disabled toilet.

  • Yes, we have a room for about 50 people, which can be separated from the restaurant.

  • Table reservations can be found here. We kindly ask for your understanding that we can only accept a limited amount of reservations. You are also welcome to visit us without reservation.

  • Minors aged between 11 and 16 years are only allowed to enter the bar until 10 pm when accompanied by an adult. Adolescents between the age of 16 and 18 are only permitted to stay in the bar until midnight when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

  • Yes, you can pay by debit or credit card starting at a minimum amount of 25 €.

  • Currently not available

  • No, from the 11th floor there are only steps leading to the Tower Bar which is located on the 12th floor.

  • No smoking is only allowed outside of the building. Please note that this also applies to e-cigarettes.

  • Only drinks and snacks are served at the Tower Bar.

  • Yes, you are welcome to book the Tower Bar exclusively. The request is based to availability. Please contact towerbar@hotel-hamburg.de for your request.

  • No. Please validate your parking ticket at the pay machines in the basement

  • We kindly ask you to refrain from bringing your dog, as the environment in the Tower Bar with loud music and numerous guests is not suitable for dog welfare. Alternatively, we can refer you to our Willi's Bierstube at the groundfloor.

FAQ about the Hafen Diner

  • The Hafen Diner is closed due to Corona until further notice.
    We are looking forward to your visit from Mondays to Thursdays from 12.00 o'clock to 21.00 o'clock and Fridays to Saturdays from 12.00 o'clock to 22.00 o'clock. On Sundays the Hafen Diner is closed.

  • There is no direct view over the river Elbe, however, you are only a few steps away from the port of Hamburg.

  • Yes, we have a lunch offer which includes a burger, a side dish and a soft drink of your choice for only 11 €. With our all-time special, you get a burger and a cocktail of your choice for just 14.50 € at any time. We also offer regularly changing special burgers.

  • Yes, there is a public underground car park with 61 parking spaces and another 25 parking spaces in the courtyard of the hotel. The charge is 18 € for 24 hours. Unfortunately it is not possible to reserve a parking spot in advance. The height and width of the driveway are 2 meters.

  • Our meeting rooms can accommodate 2 to 400 people. For larger events, we will gladly inform you about a combination of our rooms.

  • Yes, we will gladly accept your package 2 days prior the beginning of your event. Please note down the events name and date on your package.

  • Yes, both houses belong to same owner and are managed together. Therefore, we can offer you a combination of both houses for your event in the areas of function room and room. The hotels are only 400 meters apart.
