Hamburg, 24 August 2020
The year 2020 has confronted us all with new challenges and could not be more exciting. We are therefore even more delighted, especially this year, to welcome our ten new trainees.
We are looking forward to unforgettable three years together at the Waterkant.
It has not been easy in the last few months for any of us. The hotel industry was heavily affected by the current situation and we had to close our Hotel Hafen Hamburg for several months. After the reopening, one thing was clear for us - we still look positively into the future.
One of our glimmers of hope was definitely the start of our new trainees and we are very happy that we can continue to invest in our future and that we are able to offer so many young talents a start into their professional life.
In order to integrate the apprentices into our team in the best possible way right from the start, two eventful orientation days had been planned. These included basic information about the fundamental things that are important in an apprenticeship, as well as an introduction of the individual departments and managers. In order to get a little foretaste of the hotel, our new trainees could enjoy an overnight stay in the hotel, as well as a delicious breakfast and dinner in our newly opened Port. The days ended with a boat tour through the beautiful port of Hamburg to let everything come to a nice end, before the apprenticeship really started.
Our cook trainees can look forward to creating grilled specialities and traditional Hamburg dishes in our newly renovated Port Restaurant. From a 5-course menu to the perfect setting,or to bring delicacies to the table with the help of the three-plate technique, our restaurant trainees learn everything that goes with it. No matter whether it is managing invoices in the accounting department, planning weddings in the event office, service in the restaurant or checking in guests at the reception, the hotel specialist get to know the complete range and are allowed to pass through each department. Hardly any other training course is as full of variety, different insights and a constantly changing work routine as the one in a hotel. At our company, the trainees get to know two hotels at once: On the one hand, our traditional and Hanseatic Hotel Hafen Hamburg, as well as our lifestyle and design Empire Riverside Hotel - more variety is not possible.
We hope that our new apprentices will quickly feel at home in our team, because we have already taken them to our hearts. We wish them a lot of pleasure with the guests, a successful time and most importantly never to lose the fun in everything.
But it's best to hear for yourself what one of our new trainees has experienced in her first weeks in our hotel. Sandra is twenty years old, a native of Hamburg and is starting her apprenticeship as a hotel specialist. She told us how the first few weeks went for her and what are her plans after her apprenticeship.
Due to the corona pandemic, many training positions are still vacant and also start later. The NDR in the Hamburg Journal accompanied our new trainees on their orientation days through our two hotels. (In german only)
